LATAM STRENGTH: Satellite TV provider DirecTV reported second-quarter net income up 29 percent, beating expectations, as it added 472,000 net new subscribers in Latin America. U.S. subscriber growth was below forecasts at 26,000.
HULU INTEREST: CEO Michael White said DirecTV is interested in potentially buying online video service Hulu, which could accelerate the company's push to offer its video package on mobile devices.
SHARE ACTION: Economic worries and a big sell-off in stocks helped push down DirecTV shares by $2.84, or 5.7 percent, to $46.63 in late trading Thursday.
